Aspidistra elatior or the Cast Iron Plant belongs to the lily family and is native to China and Japan. The large paddle-shaped leaves are a dark shade of green and as a slow growin plant, it produces only a few new leaves a year. The main advantage of this is that it won't outgrow the location or pot that you choose for it. Given its nickname for its ease of care, this plant is ideal for beginners or to be placed in areas where many houseplants wouldn't survive.
Cast Iron plants like bright indirect light but will tolerate low light. It will also tolerate change in temperature and sporadic watering. Ideally, water your aspidistra regularly but allow its top layers of soil to dry out between watering.
